Growing up I was a bookworm. I was one of the rare breeds of children who would rather check out the Summer Reading Book List than stand in line for the newest N'sync CD. At the end of the school year, our school librarian would encourage us all to read over the summer and handed out book lists to the students. I did my best to read each book on the book list each year. My dad, a strong proponent of reading and education, was quite thrilled that I would much rather spend time in the library than watch movies in the basement.
All things changed when I got older though. Sometime in college, I lost the drive to read and would rather be on Facebook, texting friends, or out doing other things. Then, I grew up and got a full-time job which really allowed no time to read. However, as someone once said, "you make time for what you want," and this summer, I am going to jump back into reading.
Here is my summer reading list:
Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
I had heard from others that this book is hilarious and was quite intrigued by the plot.
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
I have always wanted to read this book despite hating the 1939 movie with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. I hated the movie because I just despised Scarlett and couldn't believe that I wasted four hours watching her shenanigans. I'm sure I'll feel the same way after reading the book.
Make it Happen by Lara Casey
I just discovered Lara Casey's book and website through a friend. Her story about her ups and downs and the woman God has transformed her into sounded very inspiring. I'm very excited to read her latest book.
And that's all! I wanted to keep my reading list short simply because I wanted to keep it realistic. I figured that with three months of summer, I can read a book each month and BAM! Goal complete! Check back in with me at the end of the summer to see if I kept up with my goal and if I did, I'll give a short review of each book.
What's on your summer reading list?
